Hey, sometimes my son wants to go to the potty to pee, he will tell me 'mommy i pee now' and i take him put him on the potty and praise him to no end. But if he is too into his toys etc, he doesn't tell me anything, he just goes about his business and goes in his diaper. I want to get him fully trained but this process is extremely confusing and different. He hates the pull-ups too, and i mean HATES them! Please help :-)

  1. I am a director of a daycare and we deal with potty training every day.  As long as you are willing to do this potty traing procedure, he will be accident free before you know it.  Go out and by him his very own big boy underwear.  Absolutely no pull-ups!!  They are to thick and feel like diapers so the kids do not know when they are having accidents most of the time.  Put him in underwhere every day for the next 2 week, regardless of how many accidents he is having. The reason for the underwear is that the children feel how wet they are and do not like that at all.   Place him on the potty every 45 min to one hour until he understands the concept.  He may go sometimes and may not.  Make him a potty chart.  If he goes, let him place a sticker on his pottly chart and praise him a lot!!  You may use a diaper/pull up for nap and bed time only.  I promise, witin a few days, the accidens will be more and more less and within the first week- second week, your child will be completely potty trained.

    Good Luck!

  2. I have a son who will turn 3 next month and I am having trouble getting him to the potty train as well.  I have tried pull ups, letting him wear underwear and watching his older brother go.  He just wants to giggle or play.  But hopefully with patience and practice he will get the idea.  Good luck with your son!!

  3. Seriously...3?  He should have been potty trained by now!

  4. My daughter will be 3 in december, she was close to getting trained last december, but then I had a second in January, and i didnt want to force her into it ya know?

So this summer she finally commited to it.

One day I said to her "no more diapers" (or pull ups) andfor a few days whenever she would have to p**p she would say "I NEED a diaper!!!" and cry and I would tell her she needed to sit on the potty and let it come out.

I sit on the toilet while she sits on hers and every single time when she is done she gets to put a princess or nemo sticker on her Princess Poster. Since shes younger I let her put the stickers anywhere on the poster in stead of having a chart, and I have noticed a cute pattern shes making.

Now shes not even affraid of peeing outside!! haha. (p.s. I live in rural Maine so its ok!! hehehe)Just be stern and consistant and within a few days you will see improvement.

And I ahve heard that boys sometimes take longer, and of course every child is different so don't let these foolish answers above get to you, I worked in daycare for 5 years and most boys I knew were trained around 3 or 4 and girls 2 or 3.... so I dont know what those ppl are talking about that they don't make diapers for 3 year olds LOL

  5. you are giving him too much control over the situation , put him in the pull ups or underwear (pullups at night) and ask him numerous times throughout the day to go potty. It sounds like he already knows when he has to potty he just chooses when he wants to go so you may have to be firm with him . or you will be cleaning up messes and he will never go to undies.

  6. stop putting him in diaper's let him pick out some real underwear and let him wear them. STOP PUTTING HIM IN DIAPERS FOR Goodness  sakes he is 3 years old did not know they have diapers that fit 3 year old.
