Anyone have a GREAT Vegan icing recipe?

It needs to be stiff enough for piping- and most important- TASTY!

  1. this is the best frosting i have ever had!

    1/2 cup nonhydrogenated shortening

    1/2 cup nonhydrogenated margarine (earth balence)

    3 1/2 cups powdered sugar (sifted if clumpy)

    1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla

    1/4 cup soy milk

    beat the shortening and margarine until well combined and fluffy

    add the sugar and beat for about 3 more mins

    add the vanilla and soy milk and beat for 5-7 mins until fluffy.

    This is the only frosting recipe i use! i use it all of the time for piping! you can also add some chocolate powder!

Sure-just use organic, raw sugar, which you can easily powder in a food processor or blender.  Add a little spring water, and if you want it colored, use a little beet powder (red) spirulina (green), or another herb based colorant.  You can also make a great chocolate one, using vegan chocolate chips and a little rice or nut milk.  I make a great vegan (and gluten/wheat) free chocolate biscotti which I frost with this and it turns out nice and crunchy.  Another way is to forget about traditional icing, and just drizzle your baked goods with a little raw agave nectar mixed with a drop or two of orange, lemon, or raspberry oil.  Yummy!  We have found that we have lost the taste for super sweet, gooey frosting, and prefer just a little drizzle of sweetness instead.

  3. If it's OK with you, I'd like to share my Vegan Lemon Frosting recipe!

    Ingredients:

        * 2 cups powdered sugar (make sure it is not refined. Refined sugar is not vegan!)

        * 1/4 cup margarine, softened

        * 2 tbsp soy milk

        * juice and zest from one lemon

    Preparation:

    With an electric mixer set at low speed, cream the sugar and margarine. Beat in the soy milk and lemon juice. Stir in the lemon rind.

  4. INGREDIENTS:

        * 2 cups confectioners' sugar, sift before measuring

        * 1 1/2 tablespoons margarine, soft

        * 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

        * 1/4 teaspoon salt

        * 3 to 4 tablespoons soy milk

    PREPARATION:

    Combine all icing ingredients in small mixing bowl. Stir until smooth and well blended. Adjust for spreading consistency if necessary, adding more soy milk or more confectioners' sugar. Spread icing or drizzle
