Anyone have a home theatre sub in an apartment ??

I just got a home theatre set up, and i'm really worried about how much noise it is making for the neighbors below me.

Right now I just have 1 set of wires connected to it, rather than both sets, and i've got it sitting on a book in hopes of reducing the direct vibration into the carpet.

Would it be better to sit it up on something smaller in each of the 4 corners of the sub ? like say.... i duno, 4 empty rolls of masking tape (there is one right beside me)..this way there is less contact with the ground. Would this even help at all ??

What if I get some of that dynamat and put a sheet underneath the sub / book.

The walls are cement, so I dont think i have to worry about the neighbor next to me as much.

Any suggestions as to what you guys have done would be great. thanks

  1. There is a product called the Auralex Subdude which you place on the floor and put your sub on top of which isolates the subs vibrations from the floor below it.  It actually helps tame the sub itself and control unwanted vibrations which can hinder sound quality.

    Here's the link:  http://www.auralexelite.com/products/pro...

Auralex also sells a product called Mopads which is the same thing for speakers and they also work great.

  2. well because bass travels right through walls so easily i think you might have some problems with getting it quiet. i would just turn it down and the idea of the book was pretty good. but bass travels all around so no matter how much padding you put right under it unless you padded your whole floor it wont do that much. i have the same problem as you.
