Hi, I had fantastic insurance through work when my daughter was born and it covered the entire cost of having her at a birthing center. When I stopped working I purchased a family policy through the same company and was told that it was the same coverage. Well, I am pregnant again and discovered that it practically doesn't cover anything! I will owe $4000 out of the $6000 cost. Have you ever had this happen and worked with a hospital or birthing center to cut costs?

  1. Medically bills can be negotiated, maybe through lots of phone calls, to get the right person.  Be sure to ask for an itemized list at the hospital, to make sure you really got those services.  Don't stress over this right after baby is born, it's physically not worth it.  Check Maternity insurance there are some plans that might work for you.

  2. hi. i am sorry to hear about this. i was recently in the same boat. my husbands health isurance is garbage, and just before i was about to give birth, they said i was going to have to pay 3000 dollars to cover my deductible, and then my insurance still only covered 80% after that. so that left me over 4000 dollars in debt. my doctors office told me i could get medicaid as a secondary health insurance. you should try applying. make sure you let them know that it is for a secondary, and about these bills that you are going to incurr. i found out a few days ago that medicaid will cover the birth i had in may! yayyy
