Question:

Anyone have an idea on what bug this could be?

I just saw a pretty big,black bug on our house outside.It was huge and it was able to fly.When it flew it looked like a wasp/bee flying.The legs had these little ball-like things at the end of the back leg.It also had tiny eyes,a weird yellow stripe in the middle of its body,I've never seen it before.It has some white around the wings.

If you provide a name and picture and if it is similar to the bug I'm describing I'll give you 10 points.Sorry no pictures.

  1. Maybe it is a female Carpenter Bee.  They eat wood on houses and trees. The female is a huge black bee and is a year round resident.  The males are the cutest little fuzzy gold bee type bugs. Every year for a week in June, six of the males swarm my Cotoneaster bush on sunny afternoons only. If the clouds come out the go away. I searched on line for hours and decided they were male Carpenter bees.  I guess they are bad insects because they eat wood and cause damage to trees. I look forward to their short visit every year anyway.
