Anyone have any advice re the process involved for defacto/spouse/partner visa for AUSTRALIA?

What is your situation?

For de-facto you must have lived together for a year and have proof, bills, letters, job so if possible they could get their 1 year working visa for Aus and then apply at the end of the year.

If you are engaged they must apply from the country in which they live explaining they plan to move to Australia and marry within the next year.

Or you can just get married in Aus on a 3 month tourist visa, but you must then hand in all your completed paperwork within a few days or marriage so best to visit immigration the wedding.

You will need to prove that you are a couple, so emails, letters, invitations to events together, photos etc. then the usual interviews & medicals.

Be prepared to do some running around...you'll need to look at the link below and download the correct form.  It depends on whether the partner is in Australia or overseas.  You will need proof of living together such as bills, joint bank accounts, etc. Statutory declarations will need to be filled out by friends and family attesting to the validity of your relationship. The more, the better.  These will also need to be done by yourself and your partner.  There is a police check that must be completed which includes finger printing.  If you've been together less than 12 months delay you can delay your application until that time has elapsed.  Times of separation do not count however, phone records are a good thing to have to prove you were in constant contact, as well as chat records...hoard your msn chats and print off selective parts thereof to use in your application.  

It is a long tedious process in which you are made to run around lots but I found the immigration office very helpful when things aren't exactly as the law needs them to be and it is evident the relationship is real.  Your case officer will push you in the right direction until all criteria are fulfilled.

I just re-read your question and you wanted advice and not the process...ach well, you get both!

as everyone says above it is a bit of a process- and expensive. If you can do it from outside the country- its a little cheaper for the application and then they have your partner in the system for medicare etc when you arrive, and they can work straight away, or apply for a tax file number as soon as they arrive. Good luck i personally found the process very frustrating. I'd lived out of the country for twelve years and they gave me more grief about proving residency for medicare etc than they gave him

Hello. I would agree with screamage. If you have a partner here you have to come here and live with your partner and than apply to stay and you will not have a problem i do not think. Most people get in if they have a partner. I know they check everything out because there are so many scams going on these days. Hope that helps.
