My daughter is 21 months old and LOVES anything to do with crafting. I'm looking for some fun, safe crafting ideas that I can do with her. We've just started painting, I started her with watercolors first to see how she could handle it. She likes to put everything in her mouth so she needs to be closely supervised and all products need to be non-toxic. If anyone has any painting or craft ideas that we can do together I would really appreciate it and so would she .

  1. Kool-Aid Play Dough: (non-toxic)

    1 package of kool-aid

    1/2 cup of salt

    2 cups boiling water

    2-3 cups of flour

    Mix kool-aid, salt, and water.

    Add flour.  Mix until smooth.

    Store in zip-lock bags.

  2. Sticking things onto paper is always fun with kids.  If she's putting everything in her mouth, then it's best to use big things so you can easily see when she's doing it.  Try popsicle sticks, large stickers, scraps of cloth and wool.

When she does put things in her mouth, try distracting her, rather than focusing on the behaviour (grab the offending item and say "Yeah, great idea - lets use that piece, and I'll help you stick it here!")  She might eventually figure out that it's more fun to play with the craft items than eat them!

    Have fun!
