Anyone have any good ideas???

We are getting married next year...... we pretty much have everything figured out pretty quick (we just got engaged last monday :) ) so far we have a church, hall, invitations, caterer, photographer, bridal party, dresses, tuxes, colours (which by the way are chocolate brown and turquiose) and a cake. The only 2 things i am need of help with is centerpieces and guest favours. i want something unique but inexpensive.

i was originally going to do balloon centerpieces (3 ballons at varying heights) but then i got concerned about peoples kids......you know how when you go to a wedding and people give their kids the ballons to play with so they don't have to deal with them? We are going to have an area set up with all kinds of toys for kids to play with and i guess this is the bridezilla coming out in me but how do you niceley ask someone to not destroy your centerpieces so their kids could play with the balloons when there is tons of toys to play with.

my other idea was for some sort of square glass centerpiece with either a candle or a floating gerbera daisy.... the problem there is i can't find a place in my city that rents them and i'm not going to michaels to buy them for 24.99 a piece to give away at the end of the night......if they were 7 or 8 dollars sure....and what am i going to do with 30 square vases? hahaha.

i don't even know what i want to do for favours....... i don't want to spend alot of money but i would like something that looks nice....not cheap. i was thinking a few hershey kisses in a votive holder wrapped in tulle and ties with a ribbon....... thats the best idea i have so far.

do any of you out there have any neat affordable ideas for centerpieces and guest favours??? THANKS!

  1. For my centerpieces, I got round bowls/vases with scalloped edges and have a small pillar (i think a 2 or 3" pillar, the bowls/vases themselves are 5 or 6" tall) candle that I'm putting 2 on each table (I'm having longer rectangular tables at my site) and I'm putting small river rocks around the candle and tying a ribbon around the neck of each vase. Then in the center of each table I'm putting a bud vase with 3 tigerlillies with some greenery. 77 cents for each bowl/vase at walmart, candles were on sale at Michael's for about 50 cents each, river rocks I got a 2 lb bag at Dollar Tree for $1 (half in each candle holder), ribbon probably only a few cents per holder, bud vase for probably 77 cents at walmart as well (I haven't bought those yet, lol) and flowers on sale for $1 per stem of 3 at Hobby Lobby plus greenery... so maybe I'm looking at $7 or $8 (VERY high estimation, probably even less!) per table... and I plan on telling my DJ that later in the evening, like 9:30 or 10pm that he can announce that anyone who wants them can take them (cuz I agree, what am I gonna do with ALL those bowls/vases, lol... I may keep one or 2 of the candle holders/bowls but I won't keep 36 of them lol)

As for favors, I am doing Hershey kisses as well, but I'm doing what's called "Spoonful of Kisses" I got tulle real cheap from this website http://www.tullesource.com/ and it comes in a TON of colors and different size rolls so you can get just what you need. I got a small roll of each in my colors (apricot and sage... although they had a peach color that was close enough to my apricot so I got that) and I'm going to cut a 6" or 8" round piece for each, and you take a plastic spoon (I got white ones) and wrap it with about 5 or 6 kisses, tie it with ribbon and a tag that says "Hugs and Kisses from the Mr. and Mrs." and then it has our names and wedding date underneath that. Simple! :)

ANNND I'm having bubble bottles as well... and I got bubbles at Dollar Tree (gotta love that store, lol) $1 for a dozen which is dirt cheap! and I'm getting bubble bottle labels from this seller on eBay http://stores.ebay.com/Beautiful-Favors-... and they aren't real expensive.

I'm doing 150 of each favor (I'm only inviting 150, and most of them probably will show!) and all together it's going to cost me about $80-90 for ALL of them! Very cheap! :)

    Good luck! :)

  2. We have personalized M&M's in our wedding colours (purple and blue) they were fairly reasonably priced (except for shipping because I live in Canada), and the placecard is doubling as part of the favour because we are using these little plantable cards.  As for centre peices, I wanted to be all green-tastic I have found in second hand shops a varity of silver candelabras that I have cleaned up (the most expensive cost me $8), I'm putting little tags on them explaining their journy and inviting anyone who would like to give their tables a new home to do so.

  3. I helped my best friend with her wedding we went to the plant store and got hibiscus seeds  (i think they are pretty big seeds) and tied them in black netting. then her and her husband wrote little notes on a piece of paper thanking everyone for coming and we hole punched them and tied them to the ribbon it was sooo pretty good luck and  congradulations :)

  4. Because you're using the colors brown and turquoise, why don't you have chocolates as your party favor and put them in a Tiffany's style (colored) box??? It's perfect! :D

  5. Holy c**p you guys move fast!  Wow! You got all that planned in less than 2 weeks?

I don't have any suggestions yet, I will get back to you.

  6. When is your wedding? If it is the spring you can give seeds with your names on them. Or you could even have the ever so popular candy bar.

  7. Hi and congratulations on your recent engagement!

First of all....take a breath!  You don't need to get everything done so quick!!  Wow...you have lots done already.

    Here are my ideas:

    ~ For the centerpieces......

Yes, I love the idea with the glass vase/bowl.  But where are you getting the idea that they are $24.99?  I used to work at Michaels (and still go there quite often).  You can get these "ivy bowls" at Michaels at any time for $1/each:

    http://us.st12.yimg.com/us.st.yimg.com/I...

OR...they also sell these types of bowls for about $4/each:

    http://us.st12.yimg.com/us.st.yimg.com/I...

Then, put some turquoise "gem stones" in them:

    http://www.save-on-crafts.com/vasgemmars...

Note:  You can get vase gems at Michaels also, but this company:

www.save-on-crafts.com has lots to choose from.  They also have many different glass bowls also.

Then....float some candles in them and/or a gerbera daisy.  The above company also has lots of floating candles.  Maybe you could order everything you need from them.

BUT...if you do go to Michaels, ask for a coupon!  They usually always have 40% off coupons (on a regular priced item).  When I was buying things for my daughter's wedding, I would go in each week and purchase something....or get 2 coupons and bring a friend!  In no time you will have everything.

IF you can afford it, I would also suggest for you to put the glass bowls on a mirror.  They have them at Michaels.  You can get square, round, or oval.  It just looks so pretty to have the added shine and it makes your centerpiece really elegant looking.  These are sold in a package of 3 and they sell for $10/package.  Again, go in each week and use a coupon!!  OR...wait until they come on sale.

So...I think it would be very elegant to have a mirror tile, glass bowl with some vase gems and then a floating candle/gerbera daisy.  Very pretty.  You can even put out a few vase gems on the mirror tile too.

Really, even with the mirror tile, this whole centerpiece should only come to about $5-10/per table...depending on how expensive of a vase you buy.

    ~ For the favors:

I LOVE the idea with the Hershey Kisses.  Truthfully, I would suggest to not even do them in the votive holder.  Simply do them in the tulle and tie them with a silk ribbon.  You can order personalized silk ribbon off of Ebay and/or "favor tags" that say "Thank you for sharing our special day."  I would just put the Hershey Kisses in the tulle circle (again available at Michaels), and forget the added expense of the votive holder.  You can also put them in the nice little mesh bags like this:

    Hope this helps!

  8. i love the center piece idea... but am clueless what to advice you for letting the parents know not to ruin the centerpieces or give it to their kids during the reception...  I'm rather having problems with that cus I can't think of any ideas as far as my centerpieces...

But i have a suggestion with your guest giveaways... i saw this today and i think it's lovely... Personalized chocolates... check out the link:

    Congratulations!

  9. Some very cute favors that are very personable & unique but won't break the bank are PERSONALIZED CANDY BARS.  It's basically a hershey's chocolate bar overwrapped with a personalized wrapper that has your info on it like.... Thank You for joining us on this special day,  Jane & d**k, date etc.

They add a very personable touch & are not expensive.

  10. my best friend had chocolate and turquoise colored fortune cookies as favors at her wedding in may.  you pick the "fortune."  she had them say "thank you for coming to our special day." the lucky numbers on the back was the wedding date.

i think they were like 30 bucks for 100...
