Anyone have any ideas for BBQ food for a wedding shower?

We're throwing a wedding shower at an outdoor park. We're on a pretty tight budget and there will be 30-35 people so we were just planning to do hamburgers and hot dogs, chips, salads etc. But do people hate hamburgers and hot dogs? Is it considered cheap? I don't want people to be dissappointed..

This is an amazing coleslaw you could make:

1 package of Chicken Ramen Noodles (crushed up)

1 16 oz package of bagged coleslaw mix

1 package of sliced Almonds

½ cup of salted sunflower seeds

4-6 chopped green onions

Mix in a large bowl

DRESSING:

½ Cup Vegetable Oil

1/3 Cup Cider Vinegar

1/4 Cup Sugar

1 packet of chicken ramen noodle seasoning

Pour all ingredients together, shake well

**Put dressing on when ready to serve & toss into coleslaw mix**

You could do boneless ribs (less messy) or chicken and throw some corn on the cob on the grill or some other veggie mix. Pasta salads, rolls, cracker dips like a spinach dip, crab dip, maybe some homemade salsa etc. It's really not as expensive as it sounds. If you want any recipes just let me know.

I think for an outdoor casual event hamburgers and hot dogs and the fixings are great!  how about some smoked sausage dogs in addition to hot dogs, or instead?

First of all, it is about what you (and the bride) like however, if you want to seem a little nicer...

you can get Chicken - especially thighs and legs - for not much most or about the same (depending on where you shop). With a nice marinade, they could be grilled. Do a pot of ranch beans on the grill instead of chips. a nice fruit salad, three bean salad, pasta salad and/or green salad instead of potato and macaroni salad. Nice meal and you aren't spending a lot.

I would go with a selection of kebab skewers, guests can put their own together or choose from a selection.

Hotdogs and Burgers is fine too, just hav a good selection!

Its great, cheap and different. You can use lots of different meats and vegetables!!

Sounds like a picnic to me!  You can also purchase some boneless chicken, slice to chicken finger size, marinade in BBQ sauce and serve "as is" or on rolls as an alternative.  Good luck and have fun!

Sounds great! Maybe have a variety of chips, maybe a couple of fruit/veggie trays: baby carrots, celery, pickles and Ranch Dip? Can you afford to offer hot links, too? People LOVE those. A variety of condiments: ketchup, relishes, mustard, mayo...etc. Dressing up the condiment area and tables adds a LOT to a simply planned event! What to drink? Lemonades, teas, coffees, colas? Bottled water?

An outdoor park is a pretty casual environment. If people are going to coming out to be in the outdoors, the shouldn't turn up their noses to hamburgers and hotdogs. Don't worry about what people think. They should be getting together to celebrate the happy couple... not critique the food!

I think that is a good meal.  Otherwise you can always do brats.

If you are feeling a little bold I'll give you a great recipe for jalapeno poppers:

You'll need about 30 jalapenos, cream cheese, and a pack of bacon and toothpicks.

Cut the jalapenos in half length wise so they form two long halves.  Cut off the stems and remove all the seeds so you have two hollowed out halves.

Spread cream cheese into the hollowed out sections and wrap in a half strip (or however much you want) of bacon and stick a toothpick through the whole thing to secure the bacon in place.

Using tongs grill the popper on the grill until the jalapeno turns brown / has black parts and the bacon is fully cooked.  That's it!

If they want lobster they can bring it themselves!!! lol you got enough to worry about and they are lucky to have been invited! Trust me know one is gonna complain about the food. Its a baby shower its supposed to be happy!

you absolutely can not go wrong with chicken, shrimp and steak-kabobs! Add some some veggies and throw them on some cheap skewers you can pick up at a dollar store. Include hot dogs, burgers and grilled chicken sandwiches as well as some salads. Maybe tuna with assorted rolls, garden/caesar, potato and macaroni salads.  

Concentrate most on the  presentation and decorations.  Thats the only thing that will make the whole thing seem "cheap" or "tacky".  Use a plastic table cloth and decorate the corners with bows or create cute cheap centerpieces for each table.  If you have benches you are utilizing for seating cover them. Staple/tape plastic table cloths along the bench.  If you are using folding chairs/lawn chairs tie ribbon bows on them.

Hve you thought about doing a pulled pork?  I went to a shower where they served pulled pork in a wrap with cole slaw and kettle chips.  They had great trays of Sechler pickles out, a cheese tray and they had made several kinds of brownies for dessert.  I don't know if they have Sweet Baby Rays bbq sauce where you live but that is what was used.  They served 2 kinds of pork.  Good Luck!!!

Do chicken BBQ...cole slaw, pasta salad, chips, baked beans, etc...the chicken BBQ allows people who wants a sadnwich to have one, and those who are avoiding carbs to just eat the chicken...hot dogs and hamburgers don't really work like that.

30 to 35 people you could probably add some other things for the shower to dress it up a bit.

Go to a bulk store like Costco or Sams club. You'll find meatballs, or other bult appetizers that would go well. Try getting a brisket and cooking a few yourself or buying it by the pound and serving with rolls.

Stuffed jalepenos are usually a hit at our bbq parties. Easy (whole fresh j**s, cream cheese and bacon) Cut them in half (wearing gloves) and scoop out the seeds, fill with cream cheese, wrap with bacon  and broil until bacon is crispy.

For a wedding shower, hamburgers and hot dogs are pretty cheap.  What's the difference between this bbq and the regular bbqs?  It's for a wedding shower, you need to add more food.
