It often appears to be all 'doom and gloom' in the media these days - and you don't have to look too far on this site to find questions and answers focusing on the negative side of life in the U.K.

But I don't want hear about all that!

So, major or trivial, serious or light-hearted, tell me some good things about living here...c'mon, I know you can do it!

  1. Castles, beaches, seasons, chips...

Canal boats, pasties, fashion victims, 'water rats'...

Peacocks on lawns, mountains full of heather, King Arthur, wild deer...   NHS staff who keep a sense of humour, 70's parties, we drive on the correct side of the road...  Ken Dodd, Paignton & Dartmouth Steam Railway, tug-o-war on the village green after Morris Dancing, cucumber sandwiches, The Royal Shakespeare Theatre in Stratford-Upon-Avon... mixtures of cultures, accents & freedom, wild bluebells that smell nice, British curry (now't like it in all of Asia), hedgehogs...  Mother's Union & Womens Institute produce & cake stalls, rainbows of hope on a rainy day, Glastonbury festival... Friends that know what you mean if you say "Flobberlobalob weeeeed!"....

  4. as a a working class woman  this goverment have allowed me to buy my own home at a reduced price

i also have a degree and am doing a PGCE , this kind of education for working class people was unheard of only a couple of decades ago. education for women centuries ago  was thought to affect the reproductiive organs

i am lucky to be born in england and to benefit from the education system we have

  5. I don't live in England now but I do fly home about 3 times a year and what do I see from the planes window.? The most beautiful country in the world. Its greener that anywhere in Europe with small hamlets and well kept villages. Yes I love coming HOME.

  6. Hey goes.............this morning, my daughter, who is 28years old, and 31weeks pregnant, had a very painful leg, a large red patch on it, suspecting a blood clot, I phoned seadoc, who arranged a doc to call within 15minutes, who arranged for her to go to the hospital, who saw her at once, who gave her a prescription for anti biotics as it was an infected vien in her leg.....phew!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! so that is something great about this country! The grass is literally greener there. The irish countryside is beautiful (sorry I'm counting as part of the Kingdom) and the U.K. is home to what I find the most pleasing and uplifting hills in the world.

The Pubs and the drinking belonging to the greater U.K. area should make anyone swell up with pride. Beer tastes better in the U.K. because of the environment one finds himself in.

It's home to Oxford and Cambridge, two Universities that have contributed an esteemed amount of academia and intellectuals to the world.

  11. I live in Wales and I think its superb! The entire world comes to stay in Swansea. But if you are a positive thinker you will think positive and if yer a negative thinker, then contiune to read the news and have them brainwash you.

  12. well I have friends all over the world and most say they would love to live here - and yes they do all work, have their own homes etc - they love the fact that our weather is unpredictable, not having to worry about medical insurance, our British accents, countryside, seaside towns etc etc

  13. I don't want to go anywhere else. Three old churches within 5 minutes of each other, a castle, lots of the buildings go back up to 400 years. I walk to the local shops down a narrow street and pavement, if anyone is coming the other way we have to step aside for each other and we apologise for it, I call that civilised. That's some of the good bits, which outweigh the bad.
