  1. I have not seen this in a while but they used sell a couple of things to help you learn.  One was a belt mounted system that would play a tempo much like a metronome.  Another system gave you the same thing but you could wear a head set and hear the beeps.

I read their book a long time ago.  One item to remember is even though they point out that many of the best pros had a 3:1 ratio in their swing they did not all have the same absolute speeds.  I believe they were measuring tempo by counting video frames of back swings and down swings.  If you took 12 frames for a back swing and 4 for the down swing you had a 3:1 swing.  You could also have 100 frames on your back swing and 33 on the down swing and still have a 3:1 swing.

Everyone plays best at their own tempo so remember you can have a "slow" swing or a "fast" swing and still have a 3:1 ratio.  The different pros they cite all had different overall swing seeds but they happened to have a 3:1 ratio.

    Good Luck

  2. I have bee a golf NUT for the last 15 years and havent heard of this technique. Rick Smith is fantastic for teaching basic fundamentals and applying them to YOUR swing. Good Luck, buddy!

  3. I have read the book and listen to the 3:1 tones sometimes when I hit balls at the range.  It does work for me, mostly because I'm trying to time my swing with the tones which keeps all other swing thoughts out of my head.  But if you think it's a slow backswing and fast downswing, you are mistaken.  It actually shortens my backswing, which I also think is a good thing.

  4. I've never heard of that specific theory, but I try to be loose all the way to the top, then on the first move down also, and just snap through right before and through impact. It keeps tension out of my swing.

  5. Sounds like someone trying to take advantage of us golfers and sell another theory to damage your swing so you will need more help to straighten it out.
