My daughter is 6 months old and will be crawling in the next few months. Our whole house is tile or Pergo but we are making the back room carpet- so that she has a place to "be". Tomorrow, some one from Empire Carpet is coming to do an estimate. Any one ever use them before and if so, what did you think?

Plus.... can you reccomend the TYPE of carpet I should point towards( loop, burber, wool) for a "play room"? (High traffic, possible spills, etc)

We live in Florida mind you, so... it's HOT!!!

Thanks

  1. their price is high very high compared with other carpet sellers

  2. Wool can be expensive! Your traditional carpet is usually plush or cut pile.  The fiber nylon may be softer for your baby, but also pricier than say a polyester. A berber (which had loops) is the most casual. the least expensive is usally made out of olefin - but may seem hard to your touch.  Their is a large manufacture (Mohawk) - they specifically design some of their carpets with kids in mind, often made out of olyfin. why?

Because it is almost indestructible. My suggestion would be to let Empire come in and give you the EXACT yardage you will need first.

Then do your homework. They are a large company and will try and sell you in the home - so you need to think. Good Luck!

  3. Empire is way more expensive than other carpet companies, including Lowes, Home Depot and local stores that just sell carpet.  They are also very unwilling to give you direct answers such as their measurements and price per yard/square foot etc. in an attempt to keep you from comparison shopping. I'm speaking from experience-I had them come out because I wanted carpet quickly but didn't like their secretive ways so I measured the house myself and went to Home Depot and a local carpet store. I ended up cancelling the Empire contract (which I must say they refunded with no hassle) and saving a bundle by buying from a local carpet store. I would only use Empire if you are in a really big hurry and can't afford to wait a couple of days to have a local company measure and install (if they have it in stock they can often come the next day, or the same day if business is slow).
