If you don't mind sharing if it helped you and what you were treated for, I'm considering going in and just wanted some input. Also, anyone know if it is considered safe during pregnancy?

  1. My chiropractor gave me acupuncture to help me with a problem with my wrist.  After one session of acupuncture and an adjustment it was fine and hasn't bothered me in a year.  As the others have said, there are some points that are not used on pregnant women.  Just tell your practitioner that you are pregnant and they will avoid those areas.  Also, research is showing acupuncture to be effective in dealing with pain management as well as some other conditions.

  2. yes it's safe during pregnancy- there are about a dozen or so points that are not safe until the end of the last trimester, as they induce labor.

a nationally certified acupuncturist will know this.

my sister's OBGYN referred her for acupuncture when she was pregnant for back pain & I have another friend who went to help her morning sickness.

  3. While it is generally considered safe, it is not without its risks.  There have been cases of collapsed lungs, and transmission of Hepatitis via acupuncture.

It is based on the unproven and implausible Chinese concepts of qi, which is usually defined as "life energy", which supposedly flows through meridians that can be accessed at certain chakra points.  They claim that disease is caused by blockage of the flow of qi.  Qi has never been detected, nor have meridians or chakra points.

They are primitive, prescientific concepts that have no validity.  Furthermore, there is no evidence that acupuncture does anything more than cause temporary relief of pain and anxiety by activating the body's placebo response.  There is no quality evidence that acupuncture is equal to or superior to modern medicine for ANY condition.
