I'm attending the Indy 500 this weekend and would like to know if anyone has good suggestions for getting to the track and parking around the track. We are coming from I-65 South in the mid-morning. I'm hoping to avoid sitting in a lot of traffic leading up to the track site and hope to find a parking spot where we can get out fairly easy. Thanks!

  1. this is the F1 section mate..we dont care about indy 500

  2. Being an Indy resident and having a dad that could have hit the track with a golf ball from his yard while growing up, you would think I could offer some advice.  However, I like to stick myself right in the middle of it...I get there when the cannon fires at 6AM and tailgate in the infield the rest of the day.  All I know for sure is that they close eastbound traffic on West 16th in front of the track for the first few hours of the morning, so don't plan on driving through there.  Your best bet is probably finding a neighborhood nearby where the owners rent their lawns.  $20 close to the track, $5 farther away.  If you want to use IMS parking lots, click on the link below.  When leaving, it is hard to know what to expect.  The police block off certain streets to funnel the traffic to the main roads and interstates to disperse people quickly...it is really up to them where you'll be funneled out.  Either way, relax and enjoy the experience...it's always a good time and we're supposed to have great weather!
