  1. The Inuits reside in the snow cover tundra of northern Canada, comprise of the territories of Yukon, Northwest Territory, and Nunavut. For most part, this region is covered in snow and ice and the temperature only reaches slightly over zero during the short summer months.

The Inuits main source of food are animals that live there, namely seals, walruses, whales, and fish. This diet is high in fat, helping them insulate their bodies from the cold. Clothing is also made from the skins and furs of their prey. Food is preserved by burying it deep in the snow, like an outdoor refrigerator if you will.

There is little stone, wood, or metal ore to be found in this area, so the Inuits build their igloos from snow and ice to live. Tools and weapons are mostly crafted from bone and driftwood (wood found floating in the water), and on some occasion ice is also used. Inuits travel and hunt in their dog sleds or kayaks made of driftwood and seal skin.

  2. Inuit is a general term for a group of culturally similar indigenous peoples inhabiting the Arctic regions of Alaska, Greenland, and Canada. The Inuit language is grouped under Eskimo-Aleut languages. In Canada and Greenland the term Eskimo has fallen out of favor, is considered pejorative, and has been replaced by the term Inuit. However, while Inuit describes all of the Eskimo peoples in Canada and Greenland, that is not true in Alaska and Siberia. In Alaska the term Eskimo is commonly used, because it includes both Yupik and Inupiat, while Inuit is not accepted as a collective term or even specifically used for Inupiat (which technically is Inuit). No universal replacement term for Eskimo, inclusive of all Inuit and Yupik people, is accepted across the geographical area inhabited by the Inuit and Yupik peoples. You can read about their lifestyle and culture at the link provided.
