I have a solution! Ask your child to rate the food on a scale of 1-10, 1 being "I wouldn't eat that if I was stranded on a desserted island and dying." and 10 being "It's the best thing I ever put in my mouth." If the kids are very young, make a picture chart, like the ones they use in hospitals for pain and ask the kids to point to the face that matches the taste.
With this approach, the kids try the food with an open mind, not as a chore. My son started out as a picky eater. When I developed this system, he started eating anything I put in front of him. Now, if I tell him it's an original recipe I created, he can't wait to dig in!
