I am on the leadership team at my youth group and our advisor has asked me to come up with service projects that is one and a half hours long... i need help since i have looked everywhere on the internet and have found none that we can do at our parish. everything i have found takes us to a shelter or food pantry, which we do not have time to do in an hour and a half... if anyone can help me with suggestions, i would greatly appreciate it! Thank you =]

  1. You could find a set of homes where older people live. You could do a lot of grass mowing, pruning, and general cleaning up in 90 minutes.

  2. It might be difficult to come up with a community service project that takes one an hour and a half; and where you aren't actually out in the community. Could the project be done over multiple meetings? Do you have any funding, any money?

You could check to see if there is any work that needs to be done around the parish/church. Windows that need cleaning, garden beds to weed, closets to clean and organize, etc.

Does your parish have a pantry? You could put together pretty boxes or bags with the ingredients for an Italian Dinner: A box of pasta, a jar of premade spaghetti sauce, parmesan cheese, a can or two of italian green beans, olive oil, garlic powder, a dry mix for rolls.

You could check to see if local homeless shelters, shelters for adult victims of abuse, child abuse shelters could use some personal items or kits. Collect and sort items; maybe make up the kits, and deliver the kits to the shelter. Tooth brushes, toothepaste, antiperspirant, soap, facial wash, lotions, combs, brushes, etc. are often needed.

You could check with your local Red Cross to see if the Disaster Action Team needs comfort kits put together. Comfort kits include similar items to the kits I listed above; they are given to people who have lost their homes and belongings due to disasters; for example house fires.

You could do a school supply drive for needy children or children in foster homes or group homes.

    Good luck to you.
