Im doing my grade 4 violin with RCM in less than a month, and Im completally prepared, except for my main weakness, ear training. Im really desperate for ANY tips that anyone thinks might help, no matter how odd they sound. I need to do clapback rythms, and sight reading, as well as interval identification. I have the most dificulties with intervals.

The intervals I have to know are : +3, -3, P4, P5, P8 above, -3, P5, P8 below.

ANY tips are appriciated, for working on sight reading rythms, and interval identification. No tip is too crazy sounding if it might help!

THANKS SO MUCH!

  1. Well, I'm a piano player. Not sure how I can help you since you're a Violinist.

As for Hearing training, I memorize all the chords (The sound). It sounds difficult, but works for me for the ABRSM and Trinity College of Music Examination.

  2. You can always do ear training exercises at musictheory.net

For the intervals: What I had to do was play them on the piano or violin and then think of a song that sounded like it.

P8 - Somewhere Over the Rainbow

    P5 - Star Wars Theme

P4 - Bridal Chorus (Here Comes the Bride)

    I hope that helps.
