  1. don't be afraid to be yourself

take lots of notes but always read the text

try to arrange a tour of your new school before the first day so you don't get lost

if your school mails you your schedule make sure you don't forget to bring it

    get involved in extracurricular activities

make friends with at least 3 of your teachers - maintain a professional distance so it can't be considered inappropriate but many colleges require recommendations from high school teachers

unless you plan to enlist - fail the ASVAB - you will get unending calls from military recruiters otherwise

study for the ACT and SAT

remember that once you make it to college nobody gives a c**p about what you did in high school

don't waste your money on a class ring

take lots of pictures and get as many signatures in your yearbook as possible

go to sporting events - even if you don't care about the team it's a good way to meet people

do not submit to conformity - don't go out of your way to be different but you are your own person - don't forget that

  2. I'm in grade 11, i was supposed to graduate last june, but didn't because of mistakes i made in grade 9 and 10. you have to be careful. be careful of your friends. don't do things just because other people are doing them. be yourself and be your own person. don't change who you are to please other people. when you first start high-school you start to experiment and try new things. high school is fun, and challenging. the work gets harder, but you also grow and learn new things. have fun! and most importantly stay true to yourself.

  3. 1. Be yourself. You'll find out in high school that you're often pressured to be something you're not. And there's nothing cool about that.

    2. Be organized. It's easy to get carried away with the social aspect of high school, but try staying focused on school. Keep an agenda.

    3. When you get time in class to start an assignment, do IT. It's always tempting to talk about your weekend instead, but then you get home and you have a **** load of stuff to do.

    4. Be social. On the first day, SMILE. You'll see, it's a really simple thing, but people will come to you a lot easier.

    5. Ask simple questions on the first day. Chat with people. Even if it's just "hey, are you in my class?" or making a joke with someone, or asking somebody help, it's good to step up and interact.

    6. Don't go to bed too late the night before your first day. You'll hate waking up.

    7. Getting up early sucks, but eventually you have to find something that helps. For me, it was showering in the morning and having a cup of coffee. Just find your groove.

    8. Ask questions. If you feel you're not understanding something in class, don't be shy. It's not a good thing to fall behind your entire class just because you can't get yourself to talk to the teacher.

    9. Be open to activities, and clubs. That's how you meet the most people! Join the drama club, a student committee, the volleyball team...

    10. You'll do great! Don't worry about it.

  4. You need to be yourself.  Don't let other people pressure you into doing something you really don't want to do - its an easy trap to fall into though and sometimes you don't realise till you're in it.  If people bully you then keep holding your head high and tell yourself that they're insecure about themselves rather than hating you.  Try not to ***** about others - it always gets back eventually and could be ten times worse than what was originally said (like the game chinese whispers).  Be careful who you confide in!!

Remember; the first people you make friends with may not always be the people you stay friends with for life; you may make one or two good friends that you stick tightly to throughout high school but don't be surprised if you fall away from them after a while... this is normal!

When I was at High School I made myself a time frame timetable for working - I'd set aside so many hours a day (normally two or three) where I'd work on something that needed to be done so I didn't get behind.  Make sure you're polite to teachers (!) you earn their respect and they're more likely to offer you help/extensions if you respect them back.

Hope this helps, hun, and good luck! :)
