  1. Yes, I have heard of DNS spoofing. Essentially, the DNS service converts a friendly name (such as www.yahoo,com) into an IP address. Malicious DNS servers can be put on the web or legitimate ones hacked which means that the IP address given will not be for the intended site or system but some other, generally malicious system.

    The local DNS components on your PC can also be spoofed. The most common way is to modify the hosts file.
