Apache server is a program that runs mainly on Linux Operating Systems (i think there's now a version that runs on Windows) to serve web pages such as the one you are now viewing to computers such as yours or mine or anyone on the internet.

It is very widely used across the internet, well known for it's reliability and security.

It's free and opensource which means anyone can work on making it better.
