  2. There is no subway from Düsseldorf to Cologne. You can take the local train:

    The local train is integrated into the local public metropolitan and suburban traffic system.

Germany does not have one single subway.  The previous poster gave you maps to many subways.  There are also many other trains, which I think is what you are concerned about.  The one that is most critical to you, though is the Rhine-Ruhr train system, an S-Bahn (commuter train) system that links a great deal of the northern Rhine together.  

    They don't appear to have an English language site, so you may find it easier to use the Deutsche Bahn site, which is available in 6 languages.  

    I don't know how to get from your hotel to the train station - but the people at your hotel will know.  Once at a train station, you can use these pages to figure out how to get to Koeln.
