Question:

Anyone help with a swimming speed problem?

I'm a pretty reasonable swimming and train a few times a week. I often train using floats to work arms or legs individually. I can swim REALLY fast, comparitive to most people, when I'm training this way. But when it comes to putting them together it doesn't seem to make much difference in the overall speed, though theoretically it should nearly double. Any help?

  1. ok you cant just do exercises the whole time with the floaters. you need to just do some regular speed workouts. like 5 50's one the 1:00. just you and the water. and you prolly need to get someone that knows about swimming to watch your stroke and fix any problems you may have. like a coach or a fellow swimmer.

  2. Don't think a lot about science. You should try different techniques than the ones your doing now. If you can swim fast, that's great. But try jumping in the pool and swimming your hardest for a lap. Pay close attention to what your doing. Notice every movement that your making. Then, try working on them :) It works for me.

  3. ok

to start, know how your stroke looks like, if its fast and choppy, work on really getting your arms going, if your stroke is long, pull as much water as possible

plus, don't think about what you're gonna do while you swim...JUST DO IT!!!!

  4. Do you know anyone qualified to teach/coach?  You really need someone to watch or even better video you swimming then they can tell you what you need to change,if anything, to get faster. They could also give you help with a training programme.  You should be able to find someone through your local pool or have you thought about joining a swimming club?

  5. try use both legs and arms together more often

make sure you have the long as possible reach so you get more speed off your pull

start of by swimming super slow then build it up
