I almost went through a red light - i thought these things were for safety! What happens if someone walks out into the road when a person is checking the speedometer?

Doesn't make sense. I cant wait for labour to go!

  1. Firstly it was the Tories that first introduced the speed  cameras.Secondly the automatic signs that display your actual speed are just as effective as speed cameras and there is no need to take your eyes off the road

  2. It is a problem you correctly point out.

Luckily my current car has cruise control, which is dead handy for this.

Entering, say a 40mph zone, I just have one glance at the dial and hit the stalk, taking my feet away

The thing does exactly 40 until I tell it differently.

Perhaps more cars should be fitted with this beat the cameras device.

Anyway, some Boriughs are starting to dismantle the camera boxes, as there is is no evidence the cost has any marked improvement in safety.

Not really Gordons' fault, as it down to individual local councils of whatever colour

  3. Mate where is your speedometer, in the boot?

It takes me no time to check it at all. Surely you saw the traffic lights coming and were able to process that they might turn red.

And as for waiting for labour to go, there wont be any difference with regards to speed cameras, as they make too much money.

    Edit:

Ok fair point I had not heard conservatives against them however I am not sure if they got voted in (which I hope they do) they would get rid of something that earns them 100m a year.

I don't understand where the problem is with your speedometer is though. It takes one very quick glance to see how fast your going, surely that gives you enough time to react appropriately.

  4. The worst thing is when the local council has camouflaged the camera by painting it to blend in with the surroundings, or placed it behind a large roadsign-that isn't even attempting to be about road safety, it's blatant revenue raising. The A449 is a nightmare-you pass a camera, then 100m farther on is another one. It's like that all the way along it, and if you have a reasonably powerful car that you have to rein in, you spend your whole time checking and re checking your speedo in case you creep 5mph over the limit. It's bollocks, and nobody will ever convince me the whole camera scam is anything to do with saving lives. If that was the case, the money would be spent of driver training...but since partnerships are allowed to keep the revenue, how many people think that's likely to happen?

  5. Yeah they should take speedometers off all the cars, they just distract you from your cell phone.

  6. In m any ways I agree with speed cameras say in accident black spots but the authorities lie they call it an accident area when time and time again the accident is several hundred yards away from the actual spot and sometimes even on a different road. These People are turning this Country (UK) into a Banana Republic. Ii for one am tired of cameras etc being placed for crime prevention or anti-terrorist when in fact they are nothing of the sort. like most People i have nothing or at least very little of importance to hide. I just hate being filmed or photographed.  Surely the human rights llegislation could  protect us honest law abiding citizens. Sorry forgot it is to bu--er us all up only criminals have rights thanks to our bunch of Charlies  .

  7. As a mechanic i have recovered hundreds of damaged cars from speed camera locations , and have seen as many people injured from them . They are a distraction from driving because people suddenly realise they may be a mile if two over the speed limit and brake suddenly . They fine people heavily for drinking a can of drink while driving or talking on a mobile then put a tax camera on a side road which is more dangerous then the for mentioned

  8. I was thinking that just that the other day - it is impossible to hold a speed without looking at the speedometer constantly - taking your eyes off the road repeatedly.

I remember in the days before these awful fleecing devices started appearing that I NEVER took my eyes off the road.

It isn't an improvement.  Labour are just a bunch of thieves.

  9. Yes, i agree fully, i often argue the merits of speed cameras making people concentrate too much on looking at the speedo than whats happening on the road.

A lot of speed cameras are just blatent money spinners...

  10. That is me!I always concentrate on the speedometer when passing a speed camera!
