Anyone here had whooping cough? Found a recording on whoopingcough.net and it sounds like me? You?

Guess I'll have to really be a pain about getting my doctor to consider this diagnosis. I've suggested it to my doctor and another physician, and they keep treating me for asthma although my O2 levels are good. I'm so frustrated!

  1. It isn't fun. Get to your doctor ASAP, because what happens is that you feel like you've got a cold/flu over a few weeks, suddenly you just get really sick all at once. Then they'll put you on meds and you'll slowly get better but have those awful coughing attacks for about 6 months after you contract it. Nothing will happen, you just have to sit through them. It's kind of embarrassing, because the cough fits are really loud and sometimes it literally looks like you're about to die. But you won't. You'll just turn bright red and then go back to normal.

    It's a strange experience.

  2. I had whooping cough last year. It took three visits to the doctor and one to the Emergency Room to get the correct diagnosis. The recording is VERY accurate. I didn't have the "whoop" , but not everyone does. See your doctor and get a culture to know for sure. You may have to insist for them to take it seriously.

I was vaccinated for whooping cough as a child, but apparently the vaccine doesn't last a lifetime. Whooping Cough was pretty much wiped out in this country . Immigrants brought it here from countries that do not vaccinate for it. I am from a border state and we had about 40 cases here  the same time I had it.

God Luck - I know how bad it hurts
