  1. I love to kayak and have been on a few kayaking trips, always in sea kayaks. My first was a camping and kayaking trip on the Turtle Flambeau in northern Wisconsin. I have also kayaked among the islands on the coast of Maine near Acadia National Park, and along the caves of Lake Superior. I do not own a kayak but have rented many and my favorite brand so far has been a Necky. I have tried river kayaks but not on a river, so they seemed unnecessarily responsive to small changes in my paddling. It all depends on where you plan on kayaking and for what I have done, the sea kayaks i have used have been great.

  2. Yep, I have a QCC 500.  Use it for day trips, and camping.  Pacific Ocean (Southern CA), and the lower Colorado river.

Also paddle a rec canoe and 6 man outrigger.

  3. I've been kayaking about 20 years; am an advanced open water instructor, and can't think of anything better to do.

I own 4 boats.  They range from an Azul "Sultan" for tripping and long day trips, to a Betsie Bay "Valkyrie" for day paddling and teaching and practicing Greenland skills.   Also own a Valley "Pintail", and a Boreal Designs "Ellesmere".

I paddle primarily on the Great Lakes (mostly Huron and Michigan), though usually make trips to the Atlantic and St. Lawrence.

Boat choice really depends on what the purpose is; ie, what you want to do in the boat.
