  1. I live in Dorchester, which is about a 10 min train away, and visit the place lots :P

It's weird to describe, it's a nice seaside town, very nostaligic i suppose, with souvenier shops and the such, but it's also good for shopping as well, especially compared to the surrounding areas! There are lot's of attractions to visit, the Brewers Quey and the Timewalk being one of them. And the beach is beautiful especially on a sunny day, where the sea sparkles :P we visit as much as we can in the hols!

The people are quite nice, there aren't to many chavs or yobs there compared to many other english places, so it's quite accomidating and friendly. Lot's of nightclubs and pubs as well :D

    Hope this helps!

  2. Weymouth and Portland are close by, but completely different places to live.

Weymouth is a typical English seaside resort - but quite small and intimate. Loads of good clubs, a great prom, quite old fashioned port. Lived in the outskirts for a bit and found it to be lively, but not chavvy or too rough.

Portland is like going back 100 years - tiny roads and little cottages, most of which still do not look like they have electricity!! (not quite, but you know what I mean!!) No big Supermarkets or Retail Parks - lovely!!

I'd be happy to bring my kids up in either place!

  3. Have visited there a few times over New Year - its a great little town, lots of character and people are very proud of their town.  The entire population  (or it seems to be everyone!) dress up in fancy dress on NY eve!  Had a flatmate who grew up in Portland and he had a great chilhood there.  His grandfather is in his 90's and (wait for it!)... he's never been to 'the mainland' in his life!!!  I like the beaches in Weymouth too, Portland is also beautiful.
