  1. the number 4 not sure about a cab

  2. A few do:  42 (every 15 minutes), 100 (less often) - both from outside the railway station (on the same side of the road as the station).  Taxis go from the 'back' of the station.  Sorry - don't know about cost but, unless the place you want is well out of town, it is probably not worth it.

Depending where in New London Road you want to go, it might be only a 5-6 minute walk (turn left along the road outside the station (Duke Street), turn right immediately into Victoria Road South, continue past the multi-storey car park, join Park Way near the roundabout and follow it to the left.

You will come to a subway near some traffic lights.  New London Road crosses Parkway here.  Turn left for the town centre or right (via the subway) for the county court, the Chelmsford and Essex Hospital, a catholic church and schools and various insurance/financial/professional offices.

New London Road is quite a long road so it would be a walk of about 20-25 minutes to walk as far as BBC Essex, at the junction with Writtle Road, or another few minutes to Oaklands Park and the museum.

There are other routes for getting to New London Road but my suggested route is probably the least confusing.
