  1. the best thing about them is that you never get the big bill that you can't pay but they are more expensive than paying by direct debit. I used to have both till I moved house I'm thinking of getting them again, because I've just got a massive gas bill.

  2. you end up paying a lot more than standard meters in any case, saying that we changed suppliers and our gas meter to a standard one,we opted to keep our pre-payment  electric one, just so we didnt have any huge bills coming in every quarter, but if you run out you get about£5.00 emergency to use.......so you will be ok.

  3. I HAVE THEM FOR BOTH MY METERS AND NEVER GET BILLS BECAUSE IVE ALREADY PAID FOR WHAT I USE .MY HOUSE IS NEARLY ALL ELECTRIC EXCEPT FOR MY CENTRAL HEATING. I PUT £20 IN EVERY THURSDAY EVEN IF IT  HASNT GONE ,I HAVENT PUT ANY IN MY FOR GAS WEEKS AND IT ONLY JUST RAN OUT.I SAY GET THEM BOTH.

  4. i have it and if it runs out you do always have £5 as emergency, which is to see you through till you can get a top up, it obviously depends on how much electric you use as to how quick it runs out.

  5. I wouldn't do it if I were you.  First of all, once you get them it's extremely difficult to return to the ordinary billing method.  It's also very much more expensive.  There was something about it in the press recently - either a consumer organisation or ombudsman - I forget which - claimed that the poorest members of the community (who most commonly have them) are being ripped off.  My son has had experience of both gas and electric pre-payment and it's a real bummer if and when you run out and you have no means to buy more credit.
