yeah i was a kid when i saw the the movie too. I even remember the actor's name. Rash Kapor it is yes? or Raj?

I saw it when I was a kid on tv. Yes, many people still remember the avara mu song, too. :)

Have seen and enjoyed Bride and Prejudice, too. Clever idea, adapting a classic. But I didn't like the guy playing the rich American. Too dumb and boring rather than proud.

Edit: I think the actor was Raj Kapour.

Actually , the song"avara" is much more popular in Turkey than the movie itself... I remember some parts of the movie, but its been so long. it seems as though it was like any other Bollywood movie; lots of music, lots of extras,lots of singing!
