  1. As a martial arts instructor, many students begin with a cheap uniform, just to make sure they are interested.  Often as they train, they will upgrade to a nice uniform.  I personally do not liek Shureido because I do not like the traditional drawstring pants.  I have seen my most dedicated student from the begining when he bought his uniform, he didn't get a cheap uniform, but he got a brushed cotten heavy weight, which is what I wear.

Don't let rank stop you from buying a uniform.  If your instructor allows the brand / style / color, and you want to get it, go for it.  If you have the heart to train, for years to come, I would definately get a uniform that will hold up to the training.

    Best of training.

  2. These gi's are100% cotton heavy weight uniform. Considered to be one of the best uniforms in the world.  Extremely durable and long lasting.  Allow for some shrinkage after washing.

Absorbs moisture and releases it quickly for your training comfort.

Please note that as these gi's are imported from Okinawa and made to fit in a traditional Japanese way, you need to order at least 1 size larger to accommodate a European physique.

As long as your karate school has no rules regarding gi (uniforms) you can wear whichever gi (brand) that you want.

I bought a better gi myself once I had passed 6th kyu.  It is amazing how good a decent gi can make you feel!

  3. Unless your sensei has a reason for not allowing it (I couldn't imagine why.. there is no cultural reason for it, I can promise you), a Shureido Gi is one of the best.

    Shureido is from Okinawa.

You should be careful and make sure it is a real Shureido gi. I would check online and ask your teacher to help you get a real one.

One of the main suppliers out of mainland Japan comes from here:

I have worn only Shureido for about 12 years... I highly recommend them.
