I'm in high school;

and im going to be homeschooled hopefully starting next semester.

And i was wondering what's it like? Do you like it better than a normal public school? Is it harder, faster?

Also, i will be online-homeschooled not all done by my parents; are the teachers online efficient;

im confused on stuff like math; how are they to teach you everything over the internet?

Thank you!

P.S. i live in Florida.

  1. ya cuz i beat up a ***** but i hate it

  2. A little off-topic, I know, but here's an interesting story about what home-schooling was like a few decades back, when no one knew if it was legal or not:

    You might find some good links here, too, about home schooling.

    Good luck.

  3. Hi, Im in 9th grade, and have been doing homeschool since 2nd.

    ok, i have never used the online stuff, but from my experiance it can be way faster than a public school. As for the difficulty, it depends on the person, I have four other siblings that are homeschooled, it all depends on the motivation of the child.

  4. i was homeschooled for middleschool. i liked it cause i got to sleep in late and make my own hours. and its alot easier. but i prefer public school becasue i love my friends and want to be with them. thats homeschools downfall, its easy to become disconnected from the world. make sure you keep up a social life.

  5. i wish i was homeschooled i hate my teachers!! :/

  6. I've been homeschooled since 1st grade.

        Homeschooling's nice because you can go on a vacation whenever you want, do schoolwork early in the morning or late at night and be done before or after the public schools would be done. I've never done online school, but people I know have and they loved it.

  7. I guess it could be good for certain reasons. But I think there is so much more that a school could offer you.  Especially since you are in high school, like advanced english, science, math, music(band), social activities, good teachers with different points of view.  Just make sure you get all the education you need. You don't want to miss out on a proper education.

  8. Yes. Apart from a brief flirtation with school in Primary 3, I've been home educated all my life (I'm now 14) as have all my siblings. Being home educated means (in its simplest form) I get to do what I want, when I want and only ever if I want - we're unschoolers so we don't have timetables, a curriculum, lessons, teachers.

  9. i'm homeschooled. :) i love it. its really good because you can learn as fast or as slow as you need. i use flvs.net and the teachers online are really nice and they help out if you need it. theres like no drama if ur homeschooled and no gossiping girls sitting behind u haha and you dont really have to "fit" in with anyone cuz ur the only one in your class. haha. its not harder then regular school its cool cuz you get to sleep in unless you have a job lol. but i think you'll like it. :) good luck. :)

  10. yes

  11. I am just beginning 7th grade homeschool. I prefer it to school. I agree that one of the best things about it is how you get to work at your own pace. But one of the main things I love about it, believe it or not, is the great social life. Many people say that homeschoolers don't have a social life; that can be true or completely /untrue/.

    In the homeschool group I'm in, everyone's really nice. In homeschool, there might be someone who is more popular then someone else, but it's not a vicious fight in popularity like in school. There are cliques among homeschoolers, but the cliques are intended to keep a group close, not keep other people out. All the cliques are friendly to each other and welcome anyone who wants to join their group.

    I suggest that you take your core classes alone (who needs to be bothered while doing those?), and then take extracurricular activities with other kids.

    Good luck.

  12. My son is homeschooled, and though he's younger than you (5th grade), he really likes it.  It can be harder and faster (it is for him) if that's what you want; your curriculum is tailored to your needs.  He's going on 10 and will be taking Algebra in the spring, he's also starting 7th grade science in a few months, he reads on a 7th-8th grade level, and his history is already at an 8th-9th grade level.  This is what he wants and what he's ready for, so it's what I allow him to take.  As long as he can show me mastery (answer any question I give him, teach the material back to me, apply it in other subjects), I allow him to go as far, as deep, and as fast as he wants.

    I haven't used the online schools, but from what I've heard, the teachers are very efficient and you are allowed to learn at your own pace.  Technically, once you have your hours and requirements in for the year, you should be allowed to advance to the next grade level; some online schools may go pretty strictly according to the school year, but most should let you move ahead.

    Hope that helps - and happy homeschooling!

    Edit: Homeschooling can actually open up more scholarships for you.  Many colleges are actively courting homeschoolers, as on average they are more advanced both academically and socially, and they tend to be more independent and responsible for their education.  The university that my son will most likely attend has a pool of scholarship money set aside specifically for homeschoolers (who meet the criteria).  Just make sure to keep solid documentation of your coursework, grades, and activities, and study up for your ACT/SAT.  You can also take AP and CLEP classes (same as if you were in a classroom) and earn college credit while in high school.  Remember, you can also take concurrent enrollment - there are many homeschoolers that graduate high school with an Associates Degree and are able to enter university with their first two years already taken care of.

  13. yea you can get scholar ships online.  it is alot faster. homeschooling rocks i do it, 2!!

  14. I'm homeschooled. I like it a lot better than public school because there's not as much stress. It's not harder in fact sometimes it seems easier. You don't have to be rushed threw things you don't understand you can take your time on it and actually understand it. You get more free time to do things you enjoy also. Don't worry online schooling will make sense to you once it starts.

  15. Hi! I live in Florida and my daughter takes classes from Florida Virtual School. It has worked out great for her because she struggled in math, but with very helpful teachers, lessons with good explanations, and LOTS of tutorig available, she has a 94 in Algebra I right now. You have to be self motivated, because it is very easy to slack off.

    As for any problems, the teachers have a program called Elluminate. It allows the teacher to talk to you on the phone anf do like an electronic blackboard on the computer as you talk. If you aret doing Florida Virtual School, I highly recommend it. It is free to residents of Florida, it is taught my regular classroom teachers, and you get credit on your transcript just like regular school. Good luck and I wish you much success!!!!!!!!!!!!
