Question:

Anyone homeschooling in the London, Ontario, Canada area???

My husband and I are thinking very seriously of pulling our two children out of school at the end of this year and homeschooling. We are in London, Ontario, Canada and I want to connect with some other homeschooling moms from the area. My son is in grade 5 right now, and my daughter is in grade 8. That means I would be homeschooling one at grade 6 level and one at grade 9 level! Anyone homeschool through high school? People keep telling me it is going to be really hard!! I spend hours helping them at night as it is (for the past 4 years), so I figure I can spend that 4 hours during the day actually 'teaching' them.... and I can't see it being too much of a transition that way.

Just wanted your thoughts, and to see if there's anyone here in my area.

Thanks all!

  1. Here's some info that may help:

  2. What a coincidence -- I live in London and I'm also planning to pull my kids out for the next school year, although they are a little younger than yours.

I have found a group of homeschoolers in London that plans activities and has regular meetings.  Try this link to the group "A Different Drum":

It looks like there are quite a few families doing this in the London area.  Another forum that is not restricted to London, but has a lot of London members the Canadian Homeschoolers Board:

Also, there's a conference coming up in Kitchener in April for homeschooling parents that might provide a good place to start:

    Good luck!

  3. You might have better luck going through a Yahoo Group to get answers from people who homeschool in Ontario, and ideally close to London.

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/HamiltonHo... I know it's for Hamilton, but it's the closest city group I could find to London.

It sounds like you are already used to having a routine and them used to having you help them. That will help you transition into homeschooling. It's definitely possible to homeschool them starting at their ages. It *can* be challenging, but if you're determined, then challenge isn't a big deal. :) There is always support and there's a bunch of resources out there you can use.

  4. What about their friends? Won't there be some tension with you 3 being together 24/7?
