Anyone in australia had a quote from a dentist saying $1000 work to be done?

then got a quote from another dentist saying that they wouldn't do anything and the cost$0.

I had a quote for $1000, for a root canal filling.  They got halfway through and then decided I needed to go to Melbourne for a specialist appointment, valued at $3000.  Then, I went to Melbourne, and they checked it, and it only cost $450, and the rest of the filling.  So I was out of pocket by about $450.  

d**n dentists.  Maybe I'm in the wrong business.

I have got a quote from a dentist for that amount before, it was for "Root Canal Therapy"...
