  1. I've heard that the waters are starting to recede and that some of the roads are opening back up. Hopefully it doesn't rain again!

  2. NOTE: we have just spoken with our relatives in Columbus, at 10 am.  NO BRIDGES HAVE COLLAPSED.  They were underwater, but the water is receding.  Many streets are flooded, and some people have been evacuated and are in local schools.  Stranded people have also been welcomed into homes.

  3. Its pretty bad! I live in Columbus but i am stuck in Cincinnati. And i live in Windsor Place off of Marr by Rocky Ford and it was explained to me as my family drove down the street and by they time they got to the house there was water rising behind them. Candlelight was hit pretty bad. they evacuted it and people can stay at North High school but its totally underwater. its has been hit really badly from what i have been told they have been evacuating the hospital. Our entire basement is flooded floor to ceiling with ankle deep water on the first floor. the city has been declared a national diaster zone. this is all so crazy. i was told that the east and west sides got it the worst. 31 and 65 have been shut down. if you want more info let me know!

  4. Trying to find out if N. Riverside drive area is flooded.  Can't get in touch with brother via landline or cell phone.  Can anyone provide insight?

  5. I have been trying to phone my mom who lives in candlelight village.  Have you heard from anyone there?  I have been reading that all the phones are down.

  6. Candlelight Village was evacuated by boat this evening - the entire park is flooded.  The hospital is evacuated too and most of the town is shut down.  My mother says the town has been cut in half and is totally impassable.  They have also closed many of the main roads - 8th St., 10th St., etc...  The 17th St. bridge has collapsed.

All phone service is down and only a few cell towers are operating.

  7. For more information on the situation in Columbus, visit the following websites:

The Republic - local Columbus newspaper

    www.therepublic.com

QMIX 107.3 - local Radio Station with up-to-date news regarding the flood, road closings, etc.

    www.qmix.com

Local authorities have requested everyone stay off the roads.  U.S. 31 is open, 25th Street is open, but 46 (Jonathan Moore Parkway) West of downtown Columbus is flooded.

  8. Thank you for this thread.  My kids and grandkids are stranded somewhere in Columbus and can't get to or find out anything about their house on Rocky Ford.  Does anyone know if Rocky Ford houses were flooded?

  9. I live in Candlelight and was just there at 730am Sunday.  The main road, Candlelight Drive is passable however anything to the East of the Office area has water standing in the streets.  My home is to the North of the Office and the water level came up to above my knees and is standing in Camden Drive.  Water is going down now, there is alot of field debree in the yards and of course mud is everywhere.  There is no power, no phone or no drinking water supply.  If anyone has family in Candlelight and would like to email me, I will try to go back over to the area and will try to check on them for you.  sharnsure@yahoo.com is my email.  In answer to a total loss, I could not get past the main road off Rocky Ford nearest Middle Road....however I could see homes and they are still there.  Damage is surely around the homes and most likely water damage to the interior.

  10. It's so bad that the computer I am typing this on shorted out. AAGH-

  11. Flooding is slowing down - actually retreating.  Candlelight had water that was 2 to 3 feet deep.  Some trailers had water in them, others it came to just below.  Travel around here is very limited - many roads are washed out or still under water.  Travel is only allowed into Columbus from US 31 (north and south) and only from the east via 46 and 7.  46 at I-65 is closed and may open up today.

  12. My grandparents live in Azalea which is south past the junction of 31& 7 & its completely flooded there too, no one warned them to evacuate & they woke up to impassible flooding. My grandpa is getting out their boat so they can try to get out..they had phone connection not long ago, but the connection was static & now its out. I work in Columbus & I've heard that everything surrounding my job is underwater, no word on where I work yet. It just sounds really bad, my cousins wife & daughter are stuck up there & we don't know if they can get a hold of them now. I live in Jennings County & we're waiting for word on loved ones & friends up there, just praying they're safe.

  13. Just spoke with a friend of mine. they are stranded in East High School. Water started coming into it. they are calling for outside help.

All the officers & Red Cross Personal are busy managing people.

some local radio is taking up calls to broadcast and pass the information around.

  14. It is now 11:00 Sunday morning.  I just spoke with my sister who lives on Richland-almost right at the corner of Marr and Rocky Ford.  They were offered rescue last night from her roof top, but she tells me this morning the water was only 6-8" inside the house.  My brothers, who both live off of Taylor Road, have suffered NO damages.  My sister-in-law, who lives on Griffa just south of Candlight, is devastated.  Her neighbor's basement caved in, her house remains under water, but she was able to get in to get some clothes.  As an aside, my folks, who live on the Jackson/Bartholomew County line, have been evacuated and the water is expected to crest this evening.  Their house is also filled with mud/water.  Leaving now to deliver water, food, blankets, and hugs.  I pray all of your family is safe and their homes are secure.

  15. not a total, just around the hospital, etc. however, candle light village is totally destroyed. there was rumored to be one death out of it too, but i don't know if it is legit or not.

  16. Here are some pictures for you to look at.  They include pictures of CandleLight.  Also there is a picture of Rocky Ford Road just down from CandleLight.

  17. My brother lives on Candlelight Drive, but he works at Cummins and was stranded there last night. He's at a friend but isn't allowed to go home to check on his cats. We're very worried about them. Now, his cell phone is dead, and the land line at friend's is out. So, I can't talk to him anymore for the time-being because there's no electricity to recharge the cell.

  18. Hello, I just wanted to take a few minutes to answer your question.  Candlelight was one of many areas that was hit very hard!  My mom lived there and lost her home, her car and my step dad lost his van.  They did get out safely but there is going to be clean up for weeks and weeks !  If you need to know more please let me know.  I know they took all the people they rescued from there to Northside Middle school.

  19. The 46 bridge, the big red one downtown, it has collapsed.  Along with the State street, 7th, 17th, and 25th street bridges.

  20. My kids are stuck in Columbus, I was able to talk to them about an hour ago however, since then I have lost contact.  They are on 22nd and Maple Street apparently the school and the mall are full.  Does anyone have any information as to how that area is doing at this time.  I am in Jennings County and we are unable to get any information.

  21. I live in Columbus. The flooding has receded. Candelight village was hit hard but some of the trailers have been spared. There is no phones or electricity. I am going back there on Thursday. If you haven't heard from your loved ones by then I can stop by and give a message.

  22. go to therepublic.com and they have some info.

I read they are evacuating that area.  My aunt and uncle are at Taylor Rd. and Rocky Ford.  Most evacuated from that area...they stayed.  Did you hear the 17th st. bridge by the hospital collapsed?   if you can get their radio station..not WCSI, but the FM one they are continuing coverage thru the night.  my parents are in North Fairlawn and my brother lives out on the far west side of town.  I guess hawcreek is what is cuttting off the whole town.  sounds so awful.  they are evacuating the hospital by helicopter.  Do you have someone at Candlelight village?  I heard that phone service is down.  good luck

  23. I am a few miles north of Columbus and we went driving around a few hours ago. We barely made it out of town before the roads were impassable. My daughter was 5 minutes behind us and couldn't make it. She is stuck in town at my mother n laws now.

The water has crossed Washington Street near Noblet Park. Eastbrook Plaza is under water. They had to rescue 8 people from the roof of Mariah Packing. Premier Ag on 2nd street is under water. People are being reported missing, and drowning.

Hospital Employee cars have floated away. The bridge by the hospital did colapse. We have surpassed the 500 year flood level now.

Traffic in columbus is bumper to bumper at a stand still because noone can go anywhere.

Yes, Candlelight is under water. A total washout.

The silgas company out north 31 has tons of propane tanks that have floated a mile south, we are talking 500 gallon tanks.

I65 north of Taylorsville was closed all day, and 31 north, so there were semis lined up on 31 everywhere! Cars full of people with nowhere to go.

I've never seen anything like it in my life.

The dam at Princess Lakes broke.

Police in 4 wheel drives and fire trucks are everywhere. All of the people in cars on the State Street Bridge were being rescued as we watched from the Cummins parking lot, which is also totally under water now. Cummins plant 1 is totally under water.

I live near Camp Atterbury and the National Guard and Coast Guard are flying in and out in helicopters every few minutes and it's 1 AM.

I could go on and on all day, but you get the idea. It's a true disaster.

  24. I live in Columbus.  I'm on the West side and am not in the city.  All roads to the city are flooded.  30 percent are w/o power.  Hospital was evacuated and patients transported to Indy, Seymour, Madison due to Hawcreek flooding and causing power outage.  Houses by the golf course flooded and rescue occured.  I heard on the radio that Candlelight Village is completely flooded and rescue by boat.  Shelters set up at the high schools and other places(?).  Hope you don't have family there.

  25. I was wondering if the area around 25th and Elm st. is okay. I'm out of town and can't get any info about my house. It sits across from the strip mall with Aldis in it.

  26. Not a total loss but alot of damage.  My parents live just on the other side of hawcreek and they have 8 feet of water in the basement, but nothing on the first floor.  There neighbors next door were not so lucky they had about two feet on the first floor.  The incrdeible thing is just as quick as the flood came it is gone.
