Our colony started with only 2 cats then 3 more came. 1 was pregnant and has now had 3 litters. we adopted a couple and now im knowledged on TNR and have gotten mom and 10 others fixed. Then a colony from across the street joined us as well. they are all outdoors strays. The neighbors are bothered. i feed them all daily and provide water and shelter from the weather. the shelter will kill them and the organizations have no room. Anyone willing to open your heart and home please reply.

  1. Wow.  This is a hard situation.  Instead of calling just your shelter, call up the local rescues within 30 or 40 minutes of you.  Also, since the cats are fixed and feral, they might make good candidates for farm homes.   Use www.petfinder.com to find rescue groups near you.

I would actually talk to your neighbors.  Go door to door with an information pamphlet, and the stats of this cat colony, explain Trap Neuter Release, explain that just killing the cats is not a solution becasue it leaves holes for other, intact sick cats to come into.  But listen too, cats can be destructive, so if they are digging a garden or pooping in a sandbox, or other complaint, you can be on hand to make suggestions, or find a cheap detarant.  Also, this is a good way to find cat friendly people who are willing to help you manage the cat colony.    I think I heard a stat that 80% of all people don't mind cat colonies, so you are only dealing with a small percentage of your neighbors.

I know that the Alley Cat, a national organization has resources online that covers this situation.  They also have a list of trap neuter release organizations by state that you can access.  There website is www.alleycat.com

    Hope this helps!

  2. I wish I could tell you I could help but, I am entirely on the other coast in New York State.  :(

I didn't want to let the opportunity pass though to say what an extraordinary person you are.  Thank you for helping so many little feline souls.  I know it is hard but, you ARE making a difference.

Hang in there an answer will come.
