  1. I agree that Spanish prices have rocketed over the past lets say 8 years although now is a good time to put in a cheeky offer. There is very little movement...sellers reluctant to drop their prices and buyers holding out for further market falls but like always there will be people that need to sell and some bargains out their if you put the work into finding them and of course have the time. For some private sales have a look at www.loquo.com (you will need to understand Spanish) and then choose the region of interest then go to the property link but there is no substitute for coming over, renting a place for a while and driving / walking around a lot until you find what you are looking for. Conoco is right - you will need a good solicitor.

  2. With respect to Sue who I normally agree with, but this time she isn't quite correct. In Spain right now very few people can sell their properties. There are bargains to be had especially inland such as Cordoba or Granada. You will need to go look for these yourself. What you need to look for is a property you can buy without going through an agent. Having said that, the first thing you must do is find a good solicitor because buying in Spain is a potential minefield..

If you are from the UK and you have a tight budget the one big problem will be the falling pound against the strength of the euro. If the pound fell another 10% then that would make your new house 10% dearer. If you are from the States you will find that the dollar is falling faster. If you are from the UK you have a right to be in Spain (EU) but not so from the States.

  3. I'm pretty sure you won't find ANYTHING cheap anywhere in Spain, these days.  Real Estate prices are skyrocketing, and inflation, plus the low dollar (I assume you are using US dollars, otherwise, that's not an issue, because it seems like everything else is healthy) everything is expensive, these days.
