Forget the old stuff get the newest most cost effective one you can find.  Look in to net metering in you area, that is putting you extra power out on to the grid.  Net metering removes the need for batteries and you get credits at the electric meter.

I would look at the new roof tiles that get installed in place of some of your shingles saving some money there.

This often new technology so expect to be doing work on the system yourself.

i have some solar panels.  i am not sure what make, as I just pick them up when i can find a good deal on them.  I use any kind of batteries I can get.  I have a 85 amp controller.  I have a 400 watt converter and a 2,500 watt converter.  I use mirrors to reflect more sunlight into the panels.  It takes a lot of work to keep it up and running.  I also have a smart charger hooked to the batteries.  And i have a wind generator hooked into the system.  Everything has to have a diode in line with it to keep the components from pulling current out of the batteries when they are not charging enough.

the sun, solar panels and me are one. i like to sunbath near my roof array. it is so s**y and hot there. i strip down to a micro bikini, sometimes i go naked with the great sun god. i am bronzed with my sun and solar panels. we are one under the sun.
