  1. nope.  no money.  not even a job. :(

  2. I owned btu aci fdg and ico earlier this year. I did very well.

Coal has had a MASSIVE run this year.  I like buying things when other don't like them, they tend to be cheaper. I would not be buying coal here.

Long term I think that coal is an important piece, but there are a bunch of question marks out there for the industry.

My personal way of playing coal is the choo choos.

It is the only way to move coal, grain, autos, chemicals etc...

    Here they are:

BNI CNI CP KSU UP CSX NSC

  3. Long term go with coal but put5%into nuclear energy.

they are trying to build a newnuck plant in Idhoa

  4. for your research: Peabody( BTU), Arch( ACI), KOL (That's an etf), and NLR( also an etf),Cameco (CCJ). one way to research: go to yahoo finance, research energy sector, you will get lots of ideas. Long term, good investment. Coal has been a big winner, USA has 30%, Australia has large amount, inventory is tight, and better clean technology and liquification will occur as oil becomes more expensive and less available. Nuclear is a great bet, China, India and through out the world, new nuclear plants are being built- nuclear is a great long term investment. Also, check out uranium stocks. These will increase as demand increases. Also, electric infrastructure and clean technologies. All of these will do well long term, even if we have a bear market right now.Best of luck to you.

  5. I would suggest you pay attention and follow the upcoming presidential election in November.

If Obama is elected he will destroy the oil and coal industries with his windfall tax penalties.  These taxes will merely be passed on to the consumers as price increases, as corporations don't pay taxes, they are paid by the consumers as described above.

If by chance, McCain is elected, he has at least said he will support the research and development of our oil and coal reserves.  But, as a conservative, I don't trust him, but he is by far the best choice in November.
