  1. Which city center are you looking for? There is no specific city center in Berlin like in London or Paris! They have the "former" city center of the east (Alexanderplatz) and the west (Kürfürstendamm). I've added a link so that you can search for available good value for money hotels in Berlin. It also has more information on stuff to see there. I can highly recommend to go in the tv tower in the east of Berlin. The view of the city is magnificent. Have a nice time in Berlin.

  2. I answered you in your other question

  3. http://www.alexander-plaza.com

Alexander Plaza in the middle of Berlin really close to the Alexander Platz and TV tower. Perfect to explore Berlin very central. Nice breakfast and lovely rooms.

    Booked it through www.travelsupermarket.com

  4. The Hotel Tiergarten.

This place has probably the best buffet breakfast you can get without paying a fortune. The proprietor has a very "Germanic" sense of humour and is married to an Englishwoman so language isn't a problem.

It's 3 minutes walk from Turmstrasse UBhf (U9) and 10 mins from Bellvue SBhf; it's on the direct route of the bus TXL from Tegel airport ("Alt Moabit" bus stop); 20 minutes pleasant walk (if it's not raining) through the park to the Zoo and Europa Centre and all the central hubbub area etc etc.

Getting around is a doddle. See the BVG website (link below) for city travel info. I recommend that you buy a "Welcome Card" as soon as you arrive. It's a Berlin Travelcard that offers excellent value and convenience. It also contains discount vouchers for attractions, shopping, clubs, restaurants, massage, sports etc. It's almost a tour guide in itself.

The BVG company have desks at the main airports and the hotel also sells them.

So, you have a place that's easy access to everywhere but itself is not subject to all night noise from outside.

I stay at the Tiergarten every time I visit (at least annually). I've tried several alternatives but haven't found anywhere to beat it for value, convenience and quality.

  5. join the YHA - cracking YHA in Berlin

  6. I stayed at Hotel Zarenhof:

It's more or less central (you could walk to the the centre in 10 or 15 minutes), but it is quite near to several underground and/or tram stations.

It is only a couple of years old; the rooms and the service I'd compare to that of decent but affordable tourist hotels near London's Earl's Court; the photos on the website try to give the impression of a stylish, luxurious hotel, but that's something the Zarenhof is certainly not.

I booked the hotel via the HRS website; just compare the prices and see if it makes sense or not.
