  1. I know a great one, my mother, but we're not in the NYC area! lol.

But really ... In your situation I would personally go to a local bridal boutique (private NOT a chain store) and ask if they do their alterations in-house.  You will get an experienced wedding gown seamstress and pay average prices for the skill level.

    Good Luck!

  2. NYC has tons of good seamstresses but finding them can be a pain. Check the Yellowpages, there should be some listed. Call around and see who gives you the best rate and who you feel most comfortable with. I find that word of mouth usually spreads the seamstress role the best so even ask around your local coffeeshops, bookstores and community. If you know a recent bride, ask her. Or head to the textile district and ask around, they know TONS of people!

Unfortunately I only deal with NJ seamstresses on a regular basis. However I know from shopping at the warehouses in Elizabeth and Newark that there are a lot of people in NYC who do alterations and make gowns. Yours best bet is to ask around town. Sorry I couldn't be of more specific help!

    Good luck!
