In my sociology class I have a writing assignment, and shockingly I am stumped. I am supposed to pick a song, any song, state the social message of the song as well as listing the target group for which the song is geared towards. This is a very very easy assignment, but I have no idea for a song to choose. Any ideas??

  1. abraham martain and john.

  2. The first song that comes to my mind is "From A Distance."

  3. well, the first song that popped into my head as i read this is american idiot by green day. not my favorite song. the song's social issue is the fight against turning into a mindless consumer and is geared toward the new voting generation

  4. Come on, yall.  The best song to pick for what social message it sends and who it's targeted toward would be a rap song.  Rap is turning people's opinions of music into images and ideas.  It's despicable and makes me sick, but rap is the one to pick.  try 50 cent or any dumb **** terrible rapper out there.  They'll tell you the best way to live.  Get rich or die trying.  Yeah.  Get rich or die trying.  d**n.

  5. the hurricane - bob dylan

  6. Lots. Several artists seem to specialize in social cases. Some suggestions:

Tracy Chapman - Why (several issues), The Rape of the World (environment), Talkin' Bout a Revolution (social change), Across the Lines (racism), Behind the Wall (domestic violence)

Bruce Hornsby - The Way It Is (racism/social justice), Look Out Any Window (environmental)

Suzanne Vega - Luka (domestic violence)

Rage Against the Machine - Killing in the Name (war), many others

    ADD:

    Metallica - One (war/disabled vets)
