  1. Rail services are very poor on Sundays, see if there are any charter trains running from Ely.

  2. Depends what your idea of a scenic trip is - whether its country side or historic sites. I dont know how long it'll take via train but alot of people from all over come down to visit the Portsmouth Historic Dockyard on a Sunday. Its open from 10am and starts to close around 5.30pm. Free entrance to have a look around, you will only have to pay if you wish to actually go onto the HMS Victory or HMS Warrior. The train station is a 2minute walk from the Dockyard and there are plenty of bars/cafes/shops and the beach just down the road. Enjoy it if you decide to go one day :)

  3. What about York travel via Peterborough have a lie in and set off at 1057 arrive 1305.

Return 1933 arrive home at 2228.

Have look at National Rail Enquires for times and fares.

have a look at the York Tourist Information site for a few things to do.

Always lots to see and do in York also plenty of places to eat and drink. You will have a wonderful time just remember that travel by train on a Sunday can be difficult.

  4. i think it would be nice to head up to Skipton in Yorkshire and take a different route back home
