Anyone know a really cool plant that needs intense light?

grow some marijuana. it smells nice, tastes good, and sells well!

You could do well with Strelitzia regina, the Bird of Paradise flower - they are beautiful, and good sunlight helps them to mature and ripen better than lower light conditions.

Otherwise consider growing some food plants,  as this could cut your shopping bill etc - though you need to weigh the cost of electricity into the overall estimation.
