craigslist.com, autotrader.com and ebay motors are all good sites you can go to to get your first car.

Craigslist. You can always find a decent Honda Civic or something for under $3000 on it.

Try ebay.com for cars in your area.  You don't have to do bidding if you don't want to if you use the buy it now feature that allows you to pay the set price.

Carmax.com may be good if it is in your area as well.

Also, try cars.com and if all else fails craigslist.com.
