Anyone know about Go Phone or prepaid phones?

Question

My son is 11 and most of the time he is with his father, his father's cell phone is turned off because he doesn't pay his bill. Leaving me with NO way to contact him. (Loser) Anyways, someone suggested those pre-paid phones, anyone know anything about them?

the Gophone is 25 cents a minute or the $1.00 only when you use it. Virgin Mobile is cheaper and better.

my daughter is 11 also I got her a prepaid phone, I too felt it was unnecessary, but now I am glad I have it's better that way for me to keep in contact if she goes to another friends house she can call whether there is a phone available or not where she is, I got the net10 phone because it is cheaper then the rest and I am glad I did, if there is a lot of talking then prepaid is expensive but otherwise it's $30 every other month.my net10 phone has gotten signals when other cells did not. best part no contract to sign
