Anyone know about Micro Ants?

I have found the smallest ants I have ever seen in my house. They are in the dogs food bowl and in my kitchen. I have lived in this house over 20 years and I have never seen ants like this. They are light brown and about the size of this: - I live in Northern Ohio. Does anyone know if these are just regular old ants or could they be from somewhere else and brought in with something?

  1. Probably the tiny ants from South America which have a continuous hive that seems to range from South America to north of San Francisco. Maybe they've spread across the country by now.

There is actually a species of tiny brown ants which are about half that size - not little brown grease ants, but some about 1/16" long.. We wiped some of those out a few years ago at work, and I've never seen them again. Really, very hard to even see!

  2. I have them too. I live in the Chicago area and they invaded my cats food bowl. Tiniest ants I ever saw. I have been googling around and think they are either theif ants or pharaoh ants. I am leaning more towards theif ants because they kept going on a trail together and this is one of their characteristics. I am going to try one of those raid ant traps that the ants go into and bring poision back to their nest. It is safer for animals in the house, my cat seems to stay away from the ant traps. Cross your fingers that it works. Good luck on getting rid of your ants.
