  1. For a good all-around basic book on fencing weapons, history, technique and drills for practice, I recommend "Foil, Saber, and Epee Fencing" by the authors Maxwell R. Garret, Emmanuil G. Kaidanov, and Gil A. Pezza.

Aldo Nadi's classic text "On Fencing" is an interesting read and a good history lesson, but a little dated.  There are passages in it (paraphrased) such as that women don't have the stamina or dexterity to progress far (which, by the way, is absolute bunk.)

The best web link source is www.usfencing.org  This is the official amateur fencing organization in the US.  The site has links to most (if not all) major equipment vendors, local clubs across the US, etc.

  2. Try www.fencing.net. Also, www.fie.ch is the website for the international fencing governing body. A link to the English language site is at the top right corner of the page.

You might try finding a local club. They're usually willing to help beginners.

    Good luck!

  3. You might want to ask around on the Sword Forum.  They have a Beginner's section where loads of knowledgeable people will help you.  They will also help you find a local club.

There are differing sections where you can read about sport fencing, classical fencing, rapier fencing, and other European sword arts as well.

Good luck, and welcome to the fencing world!
