paint some rocks gold...about 1-2 for each child and have a pot of gold hunt like an easter egg hunt

How about changing "duck, duck, goose".  Make someone the "leprechaun" and the "luck, luck, lucky" person can try to take the gold from him by chasing and trying to catch him/her before they get into their place in the circle...

You can play "hot potato" with real potatoes after you discuss with the class about the potato famine in Ireland...  Just use a ticking timer and it could be fun!  Use more than one potato at a time for some real giggles!!

I always made green play-clay for the kids.  I cut a shamrock shape for each child, put it into a ziploc bag, and wrote "Happy St. Patrick's Clay!" on it.

when i was in kinder they painted tiny green "leprachaun" shoe prints and we followed them all around the school.

I'm planning a hunt for gold. I'm saving metal juice (froz. concentrate) lids, may or may not spray paint gold...but have bought shamrock sticker for them. I'll hide them all over the classroom during recess.

The children will find a piece of gold, then bring it to our meeting area where I will have a ready made graph with their names listed...they will place the gold on the graph by their name, and go find more.

When the gold is all found, we will have a complete graph that can then turn into a quick math lesson.

I'm also making a short path game (based on the book "More than Counting") Which will have a short path (10 or 12 spots) along a rainbow to an empty black pot with 5 circles on it. The children will roll a die, move a marker along the rainbow path. When they reach the pot, they will add a shiny new penny to the pot. They then go back to start and repeat the activity until they have filled up the pot of gold (pennies) If you'd like a copy of this game, email me, and I'll be sure to send it to you.

Hide the lucky charms symbols around the class or playground and see who can find the most lucky charms! You can judege the winner, but all should get a bag of lucky charms as a consellation prize.

I thought this was a cute idea for snack.

Get a baby food jar for each child. Then place 2 tablespoons of vanilla instant pudding and 1/4 cup of milk in each jar, also add a few drops of green food coloring. Put the lids on the jars and let the children shake up their pudding, they can even eat it right out of the jar!

You could have one kid be a leprechaun and the rest be people, and the leprechaun has to figure out which person is holding his gold coin, or they ALL can be leprechauns and a gold coin can be hidden somewhere in the room and they can try to find it, for more fun , you can make it a gold chocolate coin and the finder gets to eat it. and the rest of the class can get hershey kisses or something.

Try to catch a leprachaun. Have the kids make "traps" of their own design.  During recess the teacher can place a note "from the little Irish imp" on the best trap that says he was almost caught by them. Maybe a bit oif treasure could be left as a reward for creative thinking.

Maybe you could take a peice of green construction paper and cut it out the shape of an four leaf clover and hide it somewhere in the room. The child that finds it first gets a chance to hide it next and repeat the steps until you all get tired of playing. I think that would be very fun, and with a little snack day along with it, the kids will enjoy themselves. Hope you take my advice and it works out.BYE!!
