  1. I find books on philosophy normally boring...i am 14, so i know. But you could go into internet discussion groups or search for things you can ponder on. But some books like you mentioned can be interesting, but i lose hope in the end. Besides you always have the internet. Good luck!

  3. Im 15 too, and I read one called

The Little Book of Big Ideas: Philosophy.

It sums up all the major philosophers and their ideas in no more then two of its tiny pages.  Lots of thought was paid into making it interesting - I just wanted to read it all day.

  4. Here is a list of some very good books.

Three Magic Words by Uell S. Andersen

True Prosperity: How to Have Everything by Yehuda Berg

Way of the Peaceful Warrior: A Book That Changes Lives by Dan Millman

    Infinite Self by Stuart Wilde

A Course in Miracles by Foundation for Inner Peace

Conversations with God : An Uncommon Dialogue (Book 1) by Neale Donald Walsch

The Hidden Messages in Water by Masaru Emoto and David A. Thayne

There you go, I have read all of these and they are all excellent. You can go here to order or read the reviews and get further information about each book.  Enjoy  http://www.amazon.com/

  5. Happiness, a guide to philosophy.

    By Allain De Botton

  6. Have you read the communist manifesto yet? It's awesome. Also, Voltaire's Candide is a short book with philosophical implications that's pretty fun to read. Plato's Euthyphro is very interesting. All these would be cheap and easy to find at a good small-business bookstore and are pretty philosophically fundamental but not too heavy.

I made these suggestions based on the info given about you (age, experience w/regilious studies, etc).

  7. Zen and the Art is a wonderful book.  I learned a lot from it.  Rather considered it my "bible" (what I called books that were extremely important to me) at one time in my life.  Good place to start, and it will make you think all right!

  8. Norman P. Barry: An Introduction to Modern Political Theory

    - rational-individualist nonsense

    Gregory Bateson: Mind and Nature*

    A Necessary Unity

Paul M. Churchland: The Engine of Reason, the Seat of the Soul

A Philosophical Journey into the Brain

Paul Davies: The Mind of God

    - can physics answer everything?

    Daniel C. Dennett: Brainchildren

    Essays on Designing Minds

    Daniel C. Dennett: Consciousness Explained*

    - assorted bogeymen are summarily dispatched

Daniel C. Dennett: Darwin's Dangerous Idea*

Evolution and the Meanings of Life

    Daniel C. Dennett: Elbow Room*

The Varieties of Free Will Worth Wanting

Antony Easthope, Kate McGowan: A Critical and Cultural Theory Reader

    i think this would do

  9. Converstion with GOD...

It is avialable in three volumes.

  10. You are way prodigal for your age.  The Big 15 huh!   You've already knocked off  "...Motorcycle Maintenance".  you must be brilliant!  Try Eugene Herrigal's Masterpiece. Or better yet (this is serious advice to a 15 year old) try Fyodor Dostoievsky's "Notes From the Underground".

  11. My answer is;

Yes, that is excellent Have you ever heard Philosophical Music?

The Rock band Rush, has this Assume man who plays the drums and write most of their lyrics. His Name is Nail Pert. We call him the "Professor" for reasons you will hear in their songs,

    Free Will

    No Bodies Hero

    Tom Sawyer

    Closer to the Heart

    Sector Red

    Subdivisions

    Side A of "2112"

Tears and Something for Nothing from Side B

    All of "Roll The Bones"

And on and on and on. Over 30 platinum Albums can't be wrong.

    Hope this helps
